Sony Ericsson P5i / Sony P5 Mobile Phone Release
Originally to be announced on November 15th the launch of the new Sony Ericsson P5i has been delayed to early 2008.
Sony Ericsson is in the final testing stages for their P5i device, and an insider from Esato claims he was one of the beta testers. Sources describe the P5i as the ‘ultimate’ smartphone, which is quite a claim for a device that hasn’t even made its way to the rumor pipelines.
The P5i is rumored to feature a 2.8″ touchscreen, HSUPA internet connectivity, WiFi, and a 5MP camera with flash and auto-focus. While information on the P5i remains very scant so far, rumors also seem to point to the device containing GPS support. The source who says they were one of the testers has even designed a mock-up of what he remembers the phone to look like. The mock-up shows a different interface than the typical Sony Ericsson UIQ, more so resembling Sony’s Cross Media Bar (XMB) interface.

The design is very much like the current Sony W910i offering slim dimensions and a slide out keypad, rumours are that the handset still needs further work and that the official release date could be around May or June 2008 - bit of a wait for such a nice looking and high specification handset. The original announcement date was due today, 15th November but has been pushed back, rumours are that there may be a meeting to discuss the official announcement next week.

Any idea when will it be released?
Both Sony and ericsson, and even more their merging to Sony ericsson, in my opinion, are a class of their own. However, on the smartphones, others have had some better features, until hopefully NOW, with the P5.
So, please, to keep the P5, what is rumoured to be….., you have to launch now, or otherwise, add, more features with every month of delay.
Other manufacurers, surely, have similar, smartphones, ready to be launched…., and although, theirs, are relatively toys, they do have the features…. please sonyericsson… make us SE fans proud again with the P5. We are counting on you!!!!! We need to feel that old feeling of a class of our own.
